A plow is one of the most important equipment that is necessary for cultivating the soil. How to choose a model which will best suit our expectations? What, apart from the price, should you take into account when looking for such equipment? Here are a few issues that are worth taking into account.

Why is it worth choosing a good plough for a farm?

First of all, a good and well-considered choice of a plough is an investment into ergonomics of work on a farm. If the equipment is bought wisely, ploughing will go smoothly and more time will be left for other activities

What should you pay attention to?

The most general look at the issue of buying a plow for the farm requires highlighting the main factors that affect the purchase of a specific model. What determines whether a particular model will be a good purchase for the farm? First and foremost important factors are:

  • price,
  • the area of land,
  • the existing tractor (power),
  • class and structure of the land.

Tractor power

What happens when we wrongly choose the plough for our needs? For example the power of the tractor. If the plough is too powerful, fuel costs increase dramatically. At the same time, the working time will increase and the quality of work will be poor. There is no need to fool around – saving fuel on the farm is important for the economic balance.

The structure of the land to be ploughed

The structure of the land will determine whether you choose a plough with a fixed ploughing width or invest more in a variable ploughing width. The number of furrows should also be adjusted to the size of the field and the type of soil to be worked.

Plough control and operation

Nowadays there are many different types of ploughs. There are both simple designs and equipment with, for example, advanced hydraulic systems and a high degree of automation

Which plough to choose: a rotary or a headland plough?

What is the difference between a rotary and a headland plough? Although the idea of using both tools is the same, the way they work is different depending on the type. It should be noted that these are the two most common types of plow used in agriculture

Headland plough. What are its characteristics?

The basic tool for ploughing is the headland plough. It is characterized by smaller size and weight than a rotary plow. It’s a great way to get started, but it’s also a great way to get started, and it’s a great way to get started. In addition, you do not need a tractor with high power to operate such equipment.

What are its drawbacks? Ploughing with it is not very economical. This is due to the fact that it cannot be ploughed in both directions. This translates into wasting valuable time

Rotary plough. What are its advantages?

An alternative to the simple plough is the rotary plough. In its case, of course, the cost of purchasing the equipment is much higher (it costs from about 40 thousand zlotys), additionally a tractor with higher power is needed to pull such equipment without any problems.

What can we get in return? Two-way rotation allows for faster ploughing. The lack of furrows also contributes to the collection of a higher yield

Additional equipment

Rotary ploughs in particular are nowadays additionally equipped with systems that extend the life of the equipment. This includes additional protection against stones that can damage the equipment

Which equipment should I choose?

In principle, you should choose a plough according to the size of your farm. It is true that a rotary plough is more economical, saves time and achieves a higher yield, but it simply cannot always be used economically. On small farms, traditional headland ploughs will do their job successfully.
