Virtual Private Network, or Virtual Private Network, is a network that provides security and anonymity on the Internet by using IP number encryption. This ensures that the identification number assigned to computers or other devices connecting to the network remains hidden from other Internet users. Such a solution has a number of applications that can guarantee a secure online experience.
How a VPN works
Connecting to the Internet and accessing some website using your phone, tablet or computer, we leave behind a certain trace. The owner of the website and the Internet provider uses our IP address to track our online traffic. They collect information about us, what we click on and how often. Such data is later used, often without our knowledge, to collect statistics, improve the website and so on. The website can track our activity on a regular basis and on subsequent visits. Using a VPN, our web traffic will still be noticed, but it cannot be linked to our specific IP address
Creating a VPN and configuring it yourself can be quite complicated. That is why there are a lot of companies on the market offering such services. When buying a VPN from a provider, they usually provide us with an application that allows for very simple operation of such a network. The whole thing is very intuitive and usually consists of literally a few actions, such as using login data and choosing a server
What benefits can a company gain by using a VPN?
It goes without saying that in-form data security is important. The times when our company is only vulnerable to being attacked by a thief are long gone. If your company does a lot of business and errands online, you are vulnerable to attack by cybercriminals. Losing data is often far more costly than stealing a few items from your office. A VPN provides, among other things
- protection from data the ft – any company that processes any data about its users/customers is a data controller. Such data must be properly protected. Information about the employees is probably also stored in digital form on one of the servers. With a VPN, the risk of such data being stolen by hackers is much lower;
- anonymity – many companies want to protect themselves from unfair competition. If the people you employ work a lot in front of a computer with access to the network, the chance that the project you are implementing will leak somewhere is high. A VPN is able to secure your connections from prying eyes. By encrypting your internet connection, you won’t be leaving a digital trail behind
- change your location – there are a lot of sites on the internet that deny access by having a bad location. By using a VPN, you can change the location address of your server, for example, from Polish to British and browse the sites there. In addition to employees gaining access to more content, you can also protect yourself from not being able to access basic sites like Google or Facebook if you send your employees on a business trip abroad;
- company image and money saving – a company that properly secures its data will certainly be considered more responsible than one that does not. It is also a kind of protection of one’s image, which can be ruined in case of a hacking attack. With such protection as VPN, you can protect yourself from such an attack, thanks to which you will not only not lose face, but also save huge amounts of money that you would have to spend on possible salvaging what is left after the data is stolen.
