Optimal organization of the warehouse is the key to maximizing the use of available storage space and thus increasing the productivity of people working in the company.

Arranging goods in the most logical way possible makes it easier to access what is most often needed and makes the warehouse faster and easier to handle.

The basis is the proper classification of goods

When planning the arrangement of products in the warehouse, the first thing to do is to divide the goods into appropriate categories. Proper classification will allow you to plan the exact arrangement of goods more quickly in subsequent stages. An important aspect is to determine the type of products held in the warehouse. It is necessary to determine their state of aggregation, since we will treat gases or liquids differently, and solids differently. Another important issue is to determine what storage space is available and how we want to store the goods. It should be determined whether they will be located on pallets, special racks or perhaps in drums.

The conditions under which goods are kept are also very important when planning the use of storage space. When classifying, it should be determined whether the stored products have special storage requirements. Some goods are sensitive to light and should be stored in darkened areas, while others must be stored at a certain temperature. The size and weight of the goods that will be in the warehouse is also important in planning product placement.

Storage system and clear signage to streamline work

When planning the arrangement of goods in a warehouse, it is important to consider what system is best to lay them out according to. Other solutions will be optimal for refrigerated warehouses and others for traditional businesses. The system of racks or pallets should be adapted to the intensity of the turnover of goods and the specific characteristics mentioned earlier – some products have specific expiration dates and should be arranged according to this.

Marking the racks and the aisles between them in a clear way improves and speeds up work in the warehouse. Adequate marking on goods and their storage locations helps facilitate the flow of products and facilitates the work of warehouse employees. Thanks to clear markings, the identification of goods in the assortment is definitely simpler, and unloading a load or finding it at a later date does not create unnecessary problems.

Control of process efficiency through regular warehouse inspections

Periodic warehouse inspections are primarily aimed at improving workplace safety. The condition of racks, machinery, pallets and other warehouse equipment should be regularly and reliably inspected, and if there are any irregularities, defects should be disposed of immediately. Especially in warehouses with hazardous materials or storing bulky products, any equipment failure can result in a dangerous accident. In such a situation, not only the health and lives of workers are at risk, but also the efficiency of the storage facility.

During periodic inspections, any possible irregularities resulting from improper planning of the storage space can be noted. By monitoring warehouse performance and regularly improving processes, you can significantly speed up work in the facility and eliminate the risk of breakdowns and accidents.
