Intralogistics is a term that includes all activities related to the circulation of materials inside a given enterprise. It is a kind of opposite to external logistics – it refers exclusively to intra-enterprise processes. It refers primarily to the movement of goods within warehouses and inventory control.

Intralogistics, or internal circulation of raw materials

Intralogistics is a term that was first defined in 2004. It is a branch of logistics that refers to the organization of the flow of information and materials within a specific plant. Intralogistics is the totality of processes, taking place within a particular enterprise, which are necessary for its smooth operation from the receipt of raw materials to the release of a complete product. Intralogistics includes:

  • internal transport of materials,
  • information flow and inventory management,
  • warehouse management,
  • intralogistics in practice.

Among intralogistics solutions in logistics companies, the most prominent are activities related to minimizing time losses. We are talking about, among other things, optimization of warehouse space, proper management of a fleet of forklifts and other tools, maximum utilization of warehouse space, and proper adjustment of automated systems, which are becoming more and more numerous in modern companies every year. It is also important to continuously improve intra-warehouse transport systems, which can be done through the use of laser-controlled forklifts or SLS self-propelled trucks.

Logistics 4.0 – the latest trends in intralogistics

Intralogistics is a relatively new concept. It is a field of logistics that is currently developing very strongly. All this is due to the tremendous progress within digitization and the dynamic development of robotics. Thanks to the use of state-of-the-art solutions, companies can now afford to optimize all logistics processes much more easily. This continuous development has given rise to a number of industry management concepts. One of the most important is the so-called Logistics 4.0.

Robotization of processes

One of the trends prevailing in logistics 4.0 is the robotization of processes. AGVs and autonomous mobile robots are being introduced into warehouses to manipulate cargo and the flow of goods. With the help of robotization, many repetitive processes that unnecessarily burden employees are being simplified, and can be successfully performed by much more efficient robots. The introduction of robotization into companies makes it possible to significantly reduce production and logistics costs associated with, among other things, warehouse management.

Information flow management systems

As part of Logistics 4.0, more and more advanced IT information flow management systems are also being developed. These are tools that make it possible to streamline logistics processes taking place both in production and in warehouses. They make it easier to identify goods and, consequently, better organize tasks at each stage of production.

Automation of material flow

Also noteworthy is the trend of material flow automation. It is increasingly being introduced in warehouses, where it enriches all production processes. The biggest advantage of introducing automated solutions is to speed up internal transportation, but also to facilitate its planning and supervision.
