Rapid development of 3D printing technology has significantly contributed to a decrease in prices of not only printers, but also consumables. This phenomenon was quickly used by multinational corporations and concerns, which wanted to reduce production costs. 3D printing allows to reduce expenses related to designing. Companies wishing to keep up with changing trends must constantly invent new products. This is an integral part of the functioning of any large company. Huge expenses spent on design always comes with a risk in the form of a product that will not hit the consumer’s taste. 3D technology is not only cheaper, but above all very efficient.
The automotive industry gives employment to a huge number of people, so it is important that it is as stable as possible. So-called cavity machining has, by far, been the most commonly used method when designing a new car. What are the disadvantages? First of all, it is very time consuming. Also, it generates a lot of waste that is difficult to recycle. 3D printing solves these problems, which is why the largest automotive corporations have been systematically increasing its share in production for several years. 3D technology uses only as much material as the model requires. In combination with the constantly decreasing price of filaments, the costs incurred are incomparably lower.
3D printers are also used during the creation of tools, without which it would be impossible to produce new vehicles. Of course, tools can also be designed and produced in the traditional way. However, this means a long waiting period. In the automotive industry, as in any other, downtime means losses that a company cannot afford under any circumstances. Long waits for the necessary parts or tools can disrupt the entire production process. The resulting losses are very difficult to make up.
Modern technology of three-dimensional printing has also appeared in the construction industry. It is used, among others, by builders of huge skyscrapers.
During the construction of such buildings very often there is a need to design new elements, which are not available on the market. Thanks to 3D printers this can be done quickly and relatively cheaply. Many people wonder what the durability of the printed parts is like. The good news is that in most cases, they are not inferior in strength and durability to parts made of traditional materials. Also, depending on the filament used, individual parts can be both durable and flexible at the same time, which is especially important in construction.
As hard as it may be to believe, there have already been houses printed entirely with 3D printers. Although such use of 3D technologies is not yet very popular, we already know that such houses will be much cheaper, and thus available to far more people.
Medicine is another industry where the use of 3D printing is steadily increasing. For many years, scientists in cooperation with doctors have been designing various types of prostheses, the biggest advantage of which is their relatively low price. Moreover, the time needed to print such a prosthesis is very short.
3D printing is also used in orthodontics to create dental implants. It takes only a few hours to create a design and print the implant, and the resulting product is extremely durable and long-lasting.
Everything indicates that in the near future 3D printers will be increasingly used in various fields of medicine.
The toy industry is a huge business that brings in gigantic revenues every year. Modern 3D printers are characterized by high resolution and can successfully print practically any figure and element. Materials used for printing are not only durable, but also resistant to mechanical damage, so they are characterized by long life. The share of 3D printers in the production of toys is steadily increasing and there is no indication that this is about to change.
