Much is said about the various, often everyday applications of 5G technology, meanwhile, the ways to use it are numerous. It can also bring huge benefits to industrial production. What specific effects will 5G have on the industrial sector?
Actually, there are probably few economic sectors that will be completely indifferent to 5G. First and foremost, the industrial sector may see an acceleration of robotization and automation. This will be followed by a decrease in production costs, which will have a significant impact on companies investing in the technology. They will also become less sensitive to downtime caused by random and unrelated accidents, such as a lockdown due to a coronavirus
The introduction of 5G has sparked discussion about what benefits it will bring to residential customers. It is now seen as existing in parallel to 4G, but with better performance. However, transmission speeds and capabilities will increase to levels seen today in, for example, radar and military technologies. How will the industry benefit from this? First of all, it will be possible to connect numerous devices to networks with increased bandwidth, which will be able to operate in complex systems with very low unreliability. Revolutionary changes are also awaiting data systems, the so-called big data. Their collection and analysis in huge amounts will facilitate the functioning of the industry.
Thanks to 5G technology, the production will undergo many changes – it will be faster, more economical and lead to the production of higher quality products. For this reason, the importance of this technology for cooperation in planning and implementation of new solutions in industry is emphasized. It will be much easier to design, test and perhaps implement them or send them back for refinement before implementation
One more important aspect of 5G implementation in the industrial sector is worth discussing: there will be unprecedented opportunities for collaboration between the orderer of products and their contractor. In the cloud, it will be possible to plan, test and order the production process with attention even to details.
The current capabilities of the network create barriers that do not yet allow smart homes, neighborhoods, cities, but also factories to take root and develop very strongly. The advent of the 5G era is expected to accelerate the Internet of Things and remove barriers to human-machine communication. Smart factories will benefit from augmented reality, using, for example, a system of autonomous vehicles that, based on near real-time information, will replenish raw materials, transport components and produce new things. It will be possible to connect thousands of devices together with very high responsiveness. There will also be increased safety in the factory, where production can be stopped almost immediately if something goes wrong.
